Thuringia as land of technology – predestined for GreenTech
Thuringia is today home to creative minds, high-powered research institutions and forward-looking businesses.

What’s more, the Thuringian economy can boast a range of innovative medium-sized companies that display a pioneering entrepreneurial spirit.

Those out in front of the pack in today’s business world can be assured a bright future – both economically and ecologically. Thus, there’s no time like the present for an ecological industrial policy in Thuringia.

Anyone wishing to profit from environmental technologies as growth driver has to set the course for ecological industrial policy today. The Ministry of Economics is doing just that with its current "Thuringia GreenTech" programme. Thuringia is destined to become Germany’s green engine – and GreenTech will provide the fuel.

As of today, more than 450 industrial enterprises and business services providers in the state can be classified under the category of environmental technologies [Source: Company and Technology Database of the Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft Thüringen mbH  (LEG Thuringia).

These companies earn a turnover of some 2 billion euros per year and employ more than 15,000 people. Solar energy enterprises have proven to be a particularly important pillar of the Thuringian economy, with around 5,000 employees and annual turnover of more than one billion euros.

Thuringian industry is represented in almost all leading GreenTech markets, for example:

  • ecofriendly energies and energy storage,
  • sustainable mobility,
  • raw material and resource efficiency,
  • energy efficiency,
  • recycling,
  • sustainable water use.
